Full Biography

DIMENSION is a unique violin, cello and piano trio of young musicians whose aim is to perform a repertoire which is not restricted solely to the piano trio medium. In addition to presenting solos, duos and trios, Dimension collaborate with other musicians often becoming a quartet or a quintet. Guest artists appearing to date include Julian Rachlin, Gervase de Peyer, Rachel Roberts and Gerhard Schulz of the Alban Berg String Quartet.

Richard, Rafal and Thomas all studied at the Menuhin School. This enabled them to perform both as soloists and as chamber partners with Lord Menuhin.

Hailed by Lord Menuhin as "a most engaging human being of great talent", British-Korean pianist Richard Joo then went on to study at the Manhattan School of Music and then in Vienna. Grand prize winner of the Stravinsky International Piano Competition, Richard has performed at the White House for the US President and recorded Billy Joel's collection of solo piano pieces, "Fantasies and Delusions", for Sony Classical/Columbia which reached the no.1 spot on the Billboard Charts and remained there for eighteen weeks.

Dimension appearances to date include London’s South Bank and Wigmore Hall and also performances in Vienna, and in the Lancut Festival, Poland.

Thomas Carroll went on to study with Henrich Schiff in Austria. Selected for Young Concert Artists in London in 2000, in 2001 he successfully auditioned for Young Concert Artists Inc in New York. Thomas has performed throughout the USA, including a concerto at the Alice Tully Hall, New York. His appearances in Britain include Aldeburgh and Edinburgh Festivals and Wigmore Hall. He gave the world premiere of a concerto by Joe Duddell.

Born in Poland, former BBC Young Musician of the year Rafal Zambrzycki-Payne was also BBC Radio 2 Young Musician 2000 and second prizewinner in the Luxemburg International Violin Competition. After the Menuhin School he studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and is currently studying in Vienna with Gerhard Schulz. As a soloist Rafal has performed with many of the major UK orchestras, throughout the UK and abroad.
